Lisbon Airport, also known as Portela Airport, is the main airport in Portugal with passengers totaling over 13.4 million last year - so it's pretty busy! In 2007 not only did Lisbon open the new airport Terminal 2 (which deals only with departing domestic flights) but also invested in the improvement and modernisation of the existing services it has to offer.
Lisbon Airport is located 7km from the city centre so it won't take you long to get there, whether you decide to catch a bus into Lisbon city centre or hire a car whilst in Lisbon or even book a private airport transfer!
Lisbon is in fact the capital of Portugal and has been built upon seven hills next to the River Tagus. With a mix of old and new, Lisbon proves to be an exciting and beautiful city to explore.
At the highest point overlooking the city you will find the well-preserved 'Castelo de São Jorge' (St. George's Castle). The castle's towers and ramparts where restored in 1938 and are the only remains of the original palace and home of the Kings of Portugal up to the 16th century. The castle is worth a visit if only for the views of Lisbon city - which are amazing!
Other tourist points in Lisbon are Rossio; the beautiful square with monuments, fountains and great history, Alfama; with its winding streets and great architecture, Praca do Comercio; the square to the old Palace destroyed in 1755, Rua Augusta; the 19th century triumphal arch.
